Discover Active Living for Seniors in Guntersville, Alabama

Sunset over Lake Guntersville-Lakeshore Senior Living

When searching for the right senior living community for yourself or someone you love, much more should go into the decision than what the community offers. While the community itself should provide exceptional care, engaging activities and amenities that make you feel at home, the three rules of real estate still apply: location, location, and location.

If a community has everything you could have hoped for, but the surrounding area is of little to no interest to you, you may not be done with your search. You need to live in an area that offers things to do that you enjoy and elements that can enhance your lifestyle.

Lakeshore Senior Living not only provides the best in engaging activities, therapies, and care services, but we are located in the beautiful Guntersville, Alabama, area that has so much to offer residents, guests, and families. Our team is sharing why Guntersville is the perfect active living destination for seniors.

Things to Do in Guntersville, Alabama

Lake Guntersville

One of the main draws to the area (and Lakeshore Senior Living) is the beautiful Lake Guntersville. This destination offers active living for seniors and hosts an abundance of fun and diverse events throughout the year, including fishing tournaments, festivals, firework displays, cook-offs, and more.

Beyond water activities and events, the lake is surrounded by waterfront dining venues and shopping.

Lake Guntersville State Park

Overlooking the Guntersville Reservoir, Lake Guntersville State Park covers over 6,000 acres of natural woodlands. “The park has an 18-hole championship golf course, a beach complex, fishing center, hiking trails, nature programs, and a day-use area (Alabama State Parks).”

In addition, there are cottages, chalets, and a campground for visitors to stay and enjoy the park and area overnight. With boating and fishing in Alabama’s largest lake, eagle viewing opportunities, and 36 miles of hiking and biking trails, there is something for the whole family to do in this beautiful state park.

Guntersville Museum & Cultural Center

Originally built as an armory in 1936, the Guntersville Museum & Cultural Center is a piece of history itself. After construction was completed, the armory was used primarily for drills, training, and classroom instruction.

During the 1970s, a new armory was constructed elsewhere, and this one was turned over to the city of Guntersville and used as a local fire stationuntil the mid-1980s.

After renovations took place in 2006, the Guntersville Museum & Cultural Center took over and now offers visitors the opportunity to explore everything from Native American artifacts to local history and culture. This is the perfect spot for history buffs or those looking for a family-friendly outing.

The Whole Backstage (WBS) Theatre

The Whole Backstage Theatre is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that focuses on providing Guntersville, Alabama, and the surrounding areas with a cultural outlet through live theatre and the performing arts. An emphasis is placed on curating a creative environment where people can be entertained, engaged, and educated, whether performers, crew members, or audience members.

Four main stage productions and one holiday production are produced every year, and several children’s camps and other special events are also hosted throughout the year.

Active Living for Seniors at Lakeshore

For older adults who need a helping hand to maintain their safety and independence, Lakeshore’s assisted living services can help. Residents in our community benefit from compassionate assistance that focuses on the six dimensions of wellness – physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and occupational.

These services provide individuals and families with peace of mind and a sense of security, knowing assistance is always available if needed. Instead of worrying about handling everyday tasks, residents have more time to explore the area, take advantage of life on the lake, and form meaningful and lasting relationships.

In addition to assisted living, our all-inclusive memory care program is designed to support the health and wellness of those living with dementia. Common Myths About Assisted Living & the Truth Behind Them

Unfortunately, there is still a stigma around assisted living communities. Some people picture senior living communities as hospital-like settings, where residents sit around all day. However, this could not be farther from the truth of what life is like in today’s assisted living communities.
